Late Night / Midnight Arrival at Hong Kong International Airport - Bus Taxi or Train?

If you arrive after midnight at Hong Kong International Airport, some bus and train services as well as restaurants are no longer operational. Don't worry, some services are still available:

1. Hong Kong Airport Express Train - the last Airport Express Train to city departs at 12.48am. If your flight arrives around midnight, you have still have chance to catch the last train. The first train from Hong Kong Airport to the city will start at 5.54am in the morning. If you missed the last train, you can still take late night buses or taxis.
2. Late Night Bus to Downtown - Depending on where you want to go, you may still be able to use buses. The following notice board at arrival hall shows the list of buses that operate after midnight.

   As you can see, after midnight, there are still buses operating from Hong Kong Airport to Western and Southern District, Causeway Bay and North Point, Mongkok, Kowloon East and Tseung Kwan O, Tsing Yi and Tsuen Wan, Tsing Yi and Kwai Chung, Tuen Mun, Yuen Long, Tin Shui Wai, Sha Tin and Ma On Shan, Tai Wai and Sha Tin, Sheung Shui and Fanling.
   
   
   
3. Taxi (at no extra charge) - If you don't want any hassle, the best way to get directly to your hotel door step is by getting a taxi. The good news is, they are still a lot of taxi available at Hong Kong Airport even after midnight, thanks to hard-working Hong Kong taxi drivers. Better still, there is no late night surcharge for taxi after midnight. Just pay the meter rate plus tunnel toll (e.g. for trip to Hong Kong Island). The taxi fare will usually be cheaper too because, unlike day time, there is no traffic jam at late night or early morning. For example, a taxi ride from Hong Kong International Airport to Shangri La Hotel Kowloon at East Tsim Sha Tsui at 1am in the morning costs HKD285 including tunnel toll.

   The good thing about taking taxi at Hong Kong International Airport is that you will be given a "TAXI INFORMATION CARD" for your taxi ride by the airport staff before boarding your taxi. The taxi registration number, estimated fare and emergency telephone number will be clearly stated on the card for your safe keeping. You don't have to worry about your safety or being cheated by the taxi driver on unreasonable surcharge when taking taxi from airport to downtown at late night.
   
4. Convenient Store (7-Eleven) - If you arrive at Hong Kong International Airport after midnight with small kids, it may be good to know that there are 24 hour convenient store (7-Eleven) at the Arrival Hall. You can get warm milk, snack, bread, sandwiches, candies, or instant cup noodles for the hungry or grumpy little ones (or yourself).

5. Restaurants - Most restaurants at the arrival hall of Hong Kong International Airport will be closed by 10pm or 11pm. However, few are opened for 24 hours. For example, Ramen Tonkotsu 8 (Japanese Ramen Restaurant) in the photo above is still opened 24 hours for hungry travellers arriving after midnight. A bowl of warm ramen and miso soup in the cold night may be exactly what you need before continuing your journey from the airport.

Flight arrivals after midnight at Hong Kong International Airport

Many airlines have their flights arriving at Hong Kong International Airport after midnight. These include flights operated by AIR BUSAN, Asiana Airlines, Cathay Dragon, Air China, Cathay Pacific, Korean Air, JEJU AIR, Jet Airways, Kenya Airways, Jetstar Japan, HK Express, Hong Kong Airlines and ETIHAD AIRWAYS. Early in the morning after 4am, flights from American Airlines, Lan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, All Nippon Airways, United Airlines, British Airways and others will start to land at Hong Kong Airports too. Even if you arrive after midnight or early morning, Hong Kong International Airport will welcome you with essential services around the clock.
